Ontario Wedding Photography Contest

I don’t know what you did last Friday night but I stayed up till 12:00am glued to facebook to see the outcome of the Trish Roberts Wedding Photography Colossal Contest.  Would there be a surge from behind to take over the leaders Deb and Jay?  They had a 100 vote lead over the closest contestant! Would a new twist develop?  Would I win Lotto Max and be very, very generous and pay for the weddings in the contest?  Here are the results.  I thought I would take a photo with my iphone just in case there was a flurry of votes during the last few minutes.

Well, as I sat there silently all alone (Trish had fallen asleep early putting the boys to bed and I didn’t win Lotto Max), 12:00 midnight passed pretty uneventful.  There were no bells and whistles here.  No screams. No Champagne corks popping.  But I’m sure for one lucky couple there were, maybe not literally, cheers of excitement and at the same time relief that that contest was over.

I’m very proud to announce that Deb and Jay, with 454 votes, have won the first ever Trish Roberts Wedding Photography Colossal Contest.

Aren’t they cute.

For two weeks Deb and her friends and family have been diligent at raising votes for them.  I have to mention Deb’s sister Sandy.  She was the person who told Deb about the contest and was her biggest supporter.  As I monitored the contest I couldn’t help but notice all the HOURLY posts on Sandy’s wall to help support her sister.  Great Job Sandy.  Then, as I mentioned in my last post, Deb got creative to to gain a huge lead.  They basically ran their own contest to boost votes.  She proclaimed on facebok that if she won she would donate $500 to her Brother-in-law Steve who rides in the MS Ride.  Well that’s all Steve needed to rally behind her and get all his supporters to support her.  Great idea Deb and if anyone is ever in a facebook contest (and there are more and more everyday it seems) this is a great strategy.  Network with a charity.  Everybody WINS.  (can’t help but think of Charlie Sheen right now as I write this. “WINNING”)
So now Deb has to donate $500.00.  And I’m sure Steve is more than willing to accept.  So our contest has created two winners.  Deb and Jay and National MS Society.  If you don’t know any one personally who raises money for MS Society, check out Steve’s website and make a donation to him.  He is on track to becoming one of the top earners.  Last year he raised $10,00.00 and this year he has set a goal of $11,000.00.
Bike MS - Bike to Create a World Free of MS
Well that wraps up this years contest.  Will we do it again?  You bet!  It was a great first contest and we learned a lot.
The next one will be even bigger and better.
I’d like to thank all that entered and our finalists.  It was a great experience and more than the above positive story have resulted.  Friendships have been formed and we’re looking forward to a wedding in the Caribbean.
For now, Deb and Jay have to claim their $3445.00. Which includes seven hours coverage from Trish, a second photographer and the edited images on disc.
We’re looking forward to your fall/winter wedding.

Ontario Wedding Photography Contest

So, today is the big day.  The last day of voting on our Facebook page for our four finalists in our Colossal Contest.  This is the first time we have run a contest like this and what an experience it has been.  Twists I never expected have come up along the way that reveal human nature.  Some not so nice and some that we are proud to be associated with. There are truly Colossal hearts out there!

So besides the usual issue of people accusing other people of generating fake accounts to boost VOTES/LIKES, which I’m still trying to figure out a way to control for the next contest, the contest has generated some truly great stories that I want to share with you.

Firstly, at the the bottom of this post are the contestants stories and pictures if you would like to read them.

What I am so impressed by is how some of the contestants didn’t let their number of facebook friends limit their votes.  Lets face it, it’s hard enough to get your friends to vote sometimes, so how do you get more votes?  Well two of our brides Traci and Deb got creative.  Traci has a friend who owns Doodlebug Candles and Soapworks in St. Thomas.  She started another facebook contest to raise votes and Traci added one of her CDs to the winning package to gain votes.  Nice!

Deb on the other hand has a family member with MS.  She added the incentive to her facebook friends that she would donate $500.00 to her family member who is one of the biggest fund raisers for the MS Society.

…”It’s the last couple days of voting, … Let’s keep it classy by voting at Trish Roberts Wedding Photography | London & Toronto, and “like” the site, then go to notes (left side) and find our profile and “like” it to vote. Feel free to push any of your friends to vote too! It all counts!  If I actually win this, I will be donating $500 to the MS Bike ride if that helps inspire you!”

Not only does he live with MS but he rides in the MS ride every year and his goal this year is to raise $11,000.00 USD. If she wins the MS society wins and we will be sure to make sure she does her donation.  We can always hold her wedding photos as ransom.  All her friends have been diligently voting and putting it on their own facebook statuses.

But lets go back to Traci.  Contests like this can be tough when there is such a valuable prize up for grabs. Traci has had to deal with some of the not so nice parts of a public contest.  All which she has not brought on by her own actions. As a result she has changed the contest from her outlook.  This is no longer a contest about her but of contestants, Rebecca and Mike!

In her words on Monday March 7th …

“Shawn and I have noticed the past couple of days, that some people have been getting a little carried away by creating “fake” accounts in order to get ahead….and we have also noticed this happening on our list of voters too.  This is not how we want to win!  We’ve even had people go as far as to inbox us telling us that, based on what they read in our story, they feel that we could most certainly afford to buy our own wedding photography package so we should be backing out!  It’s amazing how people just “assume” you are rich based on what you do for a living or based on where you’ve vacationed.  This contest started out as a wonderful way to win a fabulous prize…a $3445.00 wedding photography package!  What bride and groom wouldn’t be thrilled to win that, especially when it’s being awarded by such a wonderful photographer!  Shawn and I know first hand, how expensive planning a wedding can be….and wedding photography, along with catering, are usually your two biggest expenses!  So yes, winning this prize, would ease some of that financial burden for any couple who should win this!

But, like I said, the fun has been taken out of this contest when people begin to not play fair.  Last night we looked at the whole picture…..and one couple out of us all stood out!  And that is Rebecca and Mike.….one couple who probably don’t have as many friends as the rest of us do, but have a heartwarming story that charmed us.  They also have small children…which spells out they have a life….something that we feel we kind of lost getting wrapped up in this contest. Shawn and I, along with Shawn’s daughter Justine took the time to vote for them last night!  With that being said, because we feel the voting situation has gotten out of hand….should we end up being the winner….we would like to donate the prize to Rebecca & Mike.  In our hearts, they are the true winners because they aren’t out there like the rest of us harassing our friends and creating fake accounts to get ahead……..they are out there to try and win their votes based on their wonderful story and their love for each other.  That is what winning is all bout!”

we are just doing what feels right in our hearts and if it helps make a dream come true for the unsuspecting couple we have chosen to help, then that right there is the best prize we could ever ask for! ♥

…we hope you will all take this into consideration and do your part to help make “Our Wish” come true for Rebecca & Mike! “

We of course are impartial and leave it in your hands.  Either way the good in humanity has prevailed as I suspect one of these couples will win tonight at 12:00 midnight.

We are very proud that more has come out of this contest than was planned.

Good luck, Trish and Trevor   sniff sniff

Traci and Shawn

The say true love comes around when you least expect it and I must say, no phrase has ever proven to be more true!  Shawn and I knew from the moment we laid eyes on each other, that we were destined to spend the rest of our lives together!

Neither one us were looking as we’d both been hurt deeply by past relationships, however, on December 12, 2009, we met through a mutual friend when Shawn decided to “help out” at one of my gigs!  Instantly, I couldn’t help but be drawn into his deep brown eyes and I found myself babbling on and on…about stuff I don’t even remember except it made him laugh and smile…lol!  As fate would have it….we “connected”!!

Our first official date took place ten days later on December 22nd at the historic CASO Station….the Olympic Torch was passing through and making a stop in my hometown of St. Thomas that day, and we decided what better way to witness history in the making than to go together and join in on the community festivities!  Right from the get-go, everything about Shawn felt “perfect”!  He fit right in with my family and friends like he’d always been there and with each passing day, I found myself falling deeper and deeper in love with him!  In fact, just the mere mention of his name would make me light up like a Christmas tree (and still does to this day)!!

On October 2nd, 2010, we took our first vacation together as a couple…..a one week cruise of the Hawaiian islands….all I can say is….WOW!!!  Little did I know, the love of my life had a little surprise up his sleeve!  Our first night on board, Shawn and I took a little walk around the ship and found a quiet little spot on one of the upper decks to take in the breathtaking view as our ship set sail.  Pulling me in close and whispering loving words back and forth to each other, Shawn all of a sudden dropped to one knee!! With my heart pounding and tears instantly welling up in my eyes, my breath was taken away as he slipped the most beautiful engagement ring I’d ever seen on my finger….to which all I could muster out of my mouth was “HOLY CRAP!!!”!!!!  LOL!!!!   Needless to say, I did find the word “YES” in my vocabulary…haha!!  Giddy with excitement, we couldn’t wait to share the wonderful news with everyone back home….Thank GOD for Facebook…LOL!!

Now, the fun of planning a wedding had begun and a date needed to be set!  Upon digging through my purse, I came across a little coin souvenier from our Olympic Torch date (it had a date on it plus a picture of the CASO Station) and instantly we knew exactly when and where it had to all take place!  We have chosen December 22nd, 2011, to commemorate that special moment in our lives…PLUS…as fate would have it, that date has an even more special meaning behind it!  It just so happens, my parents were married on that exact same day and if my dad were still alive, they would have celebrated 60 beautiful years together on our wedding day!  We truly feel blessed to soon be able to share that special date with my mom and we know that my dad will definitely be watching over us as we pledge our love to each other!  Now like I said earlier, the coin also hinted as to where we should get married….the CASO Railway Station!  This beautiful piece of hometown history is going to set the stage for both our wedding AND reception and with the help of our chosen wedding decorator, it will be transformed into a winter wonderland with our colour scheme being silver, white and blue!

With our date and venue in place, it was time to find the dress of my dreams…and find it, I DID!!   As soon as I looked in the mirror, I knew it was the one….and I couldn’t help but wish that December 22nd was the next day…lol!  Believe me when I say, my friends can attest to the fact that I LOVE MY DRESS because I’m sure they can’t get enough of me saying it over and over and over…haha!

We pretty much have everything else figured out for our wedding but the one thing that is most important that we don’t have booked yet, is THE PHOTOGRAPHER!!   I must say I was very excited when I received an inbox message on Facebook stating that Trish Roberts was holding a contest to award one lucky couple an incredible wedding photography package!  I have been a big fan of Trish’s talent as a photographer for about five years now when friends in the music industry recommended her… fact I’m proud to say that my CD cover was taken by her!  Trish isn’t just a photographer….she creates works of art and brings out the best in everyone, including pets!  Shawn and I would be truly honoured to win this package….because we know that Trish will capture the magic and every emotion…..creating an incredible memory of our special day to be enjoyed and treasured for many years to come!

Deb and Jay

While we don’t have a date picked yet for our wedding, we are hoping it will be this fall….we move quick when we are determined!  So far what we have envisioned is having the wedding outside, possibly at Castle Kilbride in Baden.  Our reception will be at the Waterloo Region Police Association nearby.  We will each have 6 people in our wedding party.  It will have over 100 people in attendance….lots of police officers and paramedics as those are our professions.  This wedding will be the culmination of a love story that started 2.5 years ago.  My fiance Jay is a police officer, and I am a paramedic for the same region.  My  best friend is married to a police officer who is friends with Jay, and they decided to set us up.  On Aug 2, 2008, it was a beautiful day.  We both attended a BBQ, and later that evening, everybody went into a hot tub.  Suddenly everyone disappeared, leaving us alone to learn more about each other, and watching for shooting stars.  We have been together ever since.  Who ever thought a “blind date” would work so well?!  Jay also has a little 5 yr old daughter, who I’m so blessed to have in my life.  She is excited to be a “junior bride”, and have her Daddy walk her down the aisle.  We can’t wait for our future together, and we both truly know how lucky we are to have found each other.  Our wedding will be special because it is something we have both been waiting for for a long time.  We have had to undergo a long legal battle to try to gain custody of his daughter, and the end is finally near.  We can’t wait!

I would love to have Trish for a wedding photographer!  We have both gone through the pictures on facebook, and love her ability to capture the emotion of the moment.  That is what is most important to me, as there will be a lot of emotion on our wedding day!  I also love her use of natural light, her ability to make colours pop, and her use of nature as a backdrop.  Her angles of the pics are also great as they make it visually more interesting.  Her pics are beautiful!

Please consider us for the winner!  You truly wouldn’t be disappointed with the love and the fun that our wedding promises!  It would definitely be the icing on the cake, after the long, difficult year we have had to get to this point.

Thank you!

“You’ve got mail!”  I sighed in frustration as I slumped behind by laptop after a long and exhausting day at work.  I had just started a new job working as a security guard and the long shifts were killing me and left little time for any sort of a dating life.  Whoever invented online dating certainly had never tried it.  I almost dreaded reading the days messages. I started to pour through the endless sea of tireless pick up lines. “Nope, nope, nope…..oh absolutely no!  I was just about to give up for the night when a message caught my eye.  It was titled “Your profile made me smile”  Could this be?  Did someone actually read the profile that I spent hours foolishly writing?  I had to read it to believe it.  Sure enough someone had actually read it and appreciated my quirky sense of humor.  His message was sweet and honest, something that I found to be rare in the online world.  I was intrigued.  We had so much in common right down to our professions!  I mean what were the odds of finding someone who worked in corporate physical security?!?  His profile picture was a teeny tiny picture of a man crouched beside a dog.  I blew it  up as big as I could trying to get a glimpse of this mystery man, but the bigger I made it the worse it got.  I had no choice but to respond.  A few emails went back and forth and a blind date was set.

The next few days at work flew by.  I was so preoccupied with my “mystery date” that my security duties slacked a little.  As I sat behind my computer chatting with another guard about my impending date, I completely missed the fact that someone had walked into my building and approached my desk.  I looked up startled to see a man starring back at me with a disapproving look on his face.  He introduced himself to me as the security team lead and asked me if I was aware of the currant “no sitting” policy and that I was to be standing.  I sheepishly apologized and stood to my feet.  Awesome first impression I had just made. To make matters worse…..he was amazingly good looking!!  Shame on me for checking out my boss!   As the clock hit 5 I packed up and raced home.  I couldn’t wait to get ready!

We had agreed to meet at a local coffee shop for drinks and a quiet place to get to know each other.  I made sure I arrived 15 minutes early to get my seat.  I scanned the faces of all the men who came through the door.  Waiting for one who resembled the little picture.  At 8 o’clock on the dot the door opened and in he walked.  It took a second for me to realize who was standing in front of me.  The shocked look on his face lead me to believe that I was not the only one who realized…..he was my boss!!  He looked around the room as if to see if there was someone else waiting for him, and if this was just a coincidence.  Slowly he sat down in the chair across from me and we sat in awkward silence.  “Is this a bad idea?”  I finally spoke up.   “Well….” he stammered.  “I’ve had coffee with employees before.”  A reassuring smile spread across his face.  “I’m Mike” he smiled…..but I’m guessing you already know that.”  We both broke out in laughter.  Before we knew it they were shutting down the coffee house around us.  It was one of those nights that you never want to end.  We talked about anything and everything and have been inseparable ever since.

Only a month after we met Mike told me that beyond a shadow of a doubt he knew we were going to get married. A few weeks later we found out I was pregnant!  We decided to wait until after the baby was born to get married so he could be a part of it.  I have three children from a previous marriage who love Mike to death, and together we have such a perfect family.

One day while I was laying in bed I heard my daughter call for me.  I walked into her room and she popped out from behind her bed and handed me a rose “family is love”  she smiled.  Then I heard my youngest sons muffled voice call me from his room.  He popped up from under his covers handed me a rose and grinned “family is AWESOME!!” My eldest son jumped out of his closet “family is fun!”  My eyes started to tear up as he whispered to me to go downstairs.  As I rounded the corner to the living room I saw Mike down on one knee with a bouquet of Calla Lilies in one hand and the most beautiful ring I had ever seen in the other.  The rest is a blur.  I’m pretty sure I said “YES!!”

We have since welcomed little Isaiah into our lives and our family.  We couldn’t be happier.  What better way to celebrate a fairytale romance than with a fairytale wedding.  We are to be married in November in Negril Jamaica.  Surrounded by our closest friends and family and our newest addition little Isaiah.  We are expecting about 30 people though there is still much planning to be done.  White sand beaches, beautiful waterfalls, and sunsets over the ocean.  Everywhere you look it’s picture perfect.

We are looking to bring a photographer with us to capture this special moment and can’t think of anyone we would rather have with us than Trish.  She has shared our most special moments with us.  She did an amazing job photographing our pregnancy and newborn pictures of Isaiah. Trish has such an amazing gift.   Her discerning and artistic eye captures life like I have never seen.  We have had endless compliments on all her pictures and it would really be a dream come true to be able to bring her to Jamaica with us to share this special day.

Mike and Becky

This is our story…

Im from Calgary so we met out there because he moved out there for a few years, like everyone seems to do at one point in there lives. The story of how we met is not very exciting and i wish it was a little cooler but here it is, i was working in construction for a little while so i got into the hang of going for beers with everyone on fridays and there was one group of people i was hanging out with a little more than usual and my fiance just happened to be the nephew of one of them so we hung out as a group a few times and then finally he asked me if i wanted to do somthing with just him so we spent the day doing some shopping and then went for dinner and a movie and had such a great time without all the other guys that we decided we were going to do things just the two of us more often and before we knew it we moved in with eachother and i got out of the construction business and started to settle down with my sweetheart. Its been 4 years now :)

Our engagement, we went to Niagara Falls for New Years with a couple friends and it was in the back of my mind that he might ask me but because we were with other people i figured he wouldnt want to do it so i wasnt thinking anything of it. Then at midnight we went our seperate ways and he got down on one knee while the fireworks were going off and said i want to spend every new years for the rest of my life with u like this, in front of the bridal falls and everything it was soo exciting and surprising that i didnt know what to do but hold onto him and say yes.

Our wedding plans, well we have decided to do it in Ontario even though all of my family is in Alberta because his family has alot of babies in the family here right now that we dont want to make travel that far, plus we both love the beach and we decided if we do the wedding on the beach were doing the honeymoon in the mountains so were hoping to go to whistler. Weve picked June 2012 for our wedding because we want to do the stag and doe on May long weekend 2012, we need to leave a good amount of time between the engagment and the wedding because of how many people we have coming from Alberta and they all need to save money to get here. We’re thinking June 23rd 2012 but nothing in stone yet because we just started planning. My fiance grew up in Port Burwell, Ontario so we want to do the wedding on the beach there and then everyone can camp out in the campground there and there’s a hall available incase of bad weather. I want to have balloons as my center peices instead of flowers because there cheaper and they dont get in the way in the middle of the table, for the main table im doing some flowers for center pieces for the wedding party to take home. Our colors are Navy blue and black becasue my fiance wants to wear his family kilt and those are his family colors. I want to keep it pretty simple were going to have about 100 guests. Our band is going to be a couple friends that we know and we love there music and then were also going to have a backup dj for when they want a break. We having my fiance’s papa play the violin for us while we walk down the isle. My fiance’s little brother and sister are going to be our jr. groomesman and jr. bridesmaid and his other little brother as our ring bearer and his neice as our flower girl. Our wedding is going to special because we are the first from our generation on both my side and his side to get married so everyone is really excited and we having it the same month as both of our grandparents will be celebrating there 50th Anniversaries. The nice unique thing that were going to do is let butterflies fly free when we say our i do’s and when the sun goes down were going to light off fireworks so everyone from the area knows were celebrating and they can stop and enjoy whereever they are, also were going to make c.d’s of all our favorite songs and most played songs at the wedding for everyone to take home so when they listen to it they think of how much fun everything was. Were not booking any limo’s because we are going to ride in and out with everyone on our motorcycles.

What i love about Trish Photography is that u guys take great action pictures and your really good at taking pictures that are in the moment and no one seems to notice that your there. I love personal pictures in different locations like running through the water and laying in fields. I just really think you guys are more personal than some photographers and it shows that you guys care in your photos.

I cant think of anything else to tell you right now but i hope this is all good enough and thanks for taking the time to read our story, ill be crossing my fingers.

Thanks again, Stacey :)
